Criteria

• laboratory evidence of diminished thyroid hormone activity and excessive thyroid stimulating hormone
• or four or more of the following:
• weakness/tiredness
• mental changes:
• apathy, poor memory, slowing
• voice changes:
• coarser, deeper slower speech
• undue sensitivity to cold
• constipation
• coarse puffy facial features
• cool dry, sallow skin, decreased sweating
• peripheral oedema
